Despite the latest defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, the general mood around Ruben Amorim’s start as Manchester United head coach has been positive.
The 39-year-old Portuguese head coach has won four of his first eight matches in charge – a record he will hope to improve when Manchester United face Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
Amorim promised fans would see an “idea” of his style of play early on, and he has delivered on that promise as players continue to adapt to his 3-4-3 formation.
United are forming a clear identity under Amorim’s management, but one thing that did become clear in the Tottenham defeat is that he will need time to improve his squad, starting with next month’s January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim wants new Man United scouts in Portugal
United have a great transfer record when it comes to signing players from Portugal with Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo just two examples of great players who have moved from there to Old Trafford.
Amorim will not sign Sporting players in January to avoid unsettling his former club. A summer raid, however, is still on the cards.
According to The Mirror, Amorim is urging United chiefs to build a brand-new scouting team in Portugal to capitalise on the exciting wave of talent coming through in his homeland.
The report claims that Amorim believes United’s talent-spotting network in Portugal has dropped off since Ronaldo was signed 21 years ago.
Amorim handed out 27 debuts at Sporting and developed some of the country’s top talent during his time in Lisbon. He now wants United to be sniffing around for the brightest prospects.
Following Amorim’s arrival at Carrington, United have been linked to several stars currently shining in Portugal.
Two of those are Amorim’s former players.
United have been linked to Viktor Gyokeres as a potential striker target. The Swedish star boasts an incredible scoring record under Amorim and Gyokeres is available for £63m.
Another Sporting star on United’s radar is Geovany Quenda, who is seen as a possible solution to the wing-back position at Old Trafford. Just 17 years old, Geovany Quenda is exactly the kind of player Ineos are looking out for. He is viewed as a potential superstar and could be reunited with Amorim in Manchester.
Two other stars linked with United in 2025 are Benfica duo Antonio Silva and Tomas Araujo.
United were linked with Silva in the summer but his £85m release clause made a deal difficult. Another Benfica defender, Aruajo, has emerged as a possible 2025 target but he has recently signed a new deal.
While these are just four names linked with United, there are several other players in Portugal who have been tipped to join Amorim in Manchester. ...CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE➤
