The Gunners kept their powder dry once again, and it’s going to be down to Kai Havertz to lead the line for Arsenal in this title race.
Arsenal were brilliant against Manchester City at the weekend, and they need more performances like that if they are to win the league.
Martin Odegaard scored just his second goal of the season against City at the weekend, and it was a very good performance from the Norwegian on the day.
Odegaard has been criticised at times this season, and speaking on The Overlap, Paul Scholes has shared his theory on why.
The pundit says that Odegaard isn’t playing brilliantly because he doesn’t have a proper centre-forward ahead of him, claiming that the midfielder would be much better if Arsenal signed someone like Alexander Isak.
Martin Odegaard would improve if Arsenal signed Alexander Isak
Scholes shared his verdict on Odegaard’s form this season.
The pundit says that Odegaard isn’t at his best due to the players around him, claiming that he’d be much better with someone like Isak in the team.
Isak has been linked to Arsenal in recent times, so this isn’t the most unrealistic move to suggest.
“Imagine him with a centre-forward though, with a proper centre-forward. Odegaard is a brilliant player, a number 10 needs that in front of him, I don’t think Havertz is that type of player, I think he makes the odd run in there, but someone like Isak or Duran, the lad from Villa, if he had that in front of him he’d become a better player as well because he’d be more involved with goals,” Scholes said.

It’s interesting that Scholes points towards Isak as a player that would make Odegaard better.
Indeed, these two have actually played together in the past at Real Sociedad.
Odegaard spent a season on loan at Sociedad, and, as Scholes suggested, his record alongside the £60m man was brilliant.

Odegaard was getting more goals and more assists in the same team as Isak than he is this season.
However, it may be a tad reductive to blame Kai Havertz for Odegaard’s form this season. After all, Odegaard put up brilliant numbers last season in the same attacking set-up.
