Onikijipa and other clerics present at the burial of Wasiu’s mother where the musician refused to apologize for his remark on the promiscuity of some Muslim clerics were subjected to criticism from colleagues.

NPO reported that some of the clerics had in reaction to the incident held that Onikijipa and other Alfas should have left the burial immediately Wasiu refused their request to apologize for his remark.

Others charged the clerics to stop attending events they are not invited to.

Responding to the critics in a video shared on X on Sunday, Onikijipa explained that the clerics would have still been criticized for impatience if they had left the event angrily.

“We are the ones inviting others to the religion. If the clerics had left angrily, people would say ‘they should have been patient with him. After all, they are God’s servant. They should know that he is in mourning state and might have said that out of grievance. So what can we emulate from them now?’” the cleric said.

Onikijipa further recounted an incident involving a Muslim worker at the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

He recalled how the man whose name was not disclosed, built a mosque which he barely attend.

Following his death, the clerics refused to coordinate his burial which would be done three days after by some Christians.
