City fell to a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa to drop behind Unai Emery’s side and into sixth place. Jhon Duran and former City youngster Morgan Rogers got the goals, with Phil Foden replying too late to make a difference.

Guardiola’s team have earned just four points from their last eight league matches to fall out of title contention and leave their hopes of Champions League qualification in jeopardy. The recent run has also seen them knocked out of the Carabao Cup , while a run of one point from their last three European games leaves them in danger of an early elimination.

Former City defender Joleon Lescott was on TNT Sports duty as Guardiola’s side suffered their Villa Park reverse on Saturday lunchtime. However, he doesn’t expect the long-serving manager to leave any time soon.

“I don’t think Guardiola is anywhere close to resigning,” Lescott said after the match. “He’s someone that thrives on a challenge. He will see this as a challenge. I don’t think he’s anywhere close to thinking about resigning.”

Guardiola only signed a two-year contract extension in November. If he sees it out, he’ll have spent a decade at the Etihad Stadium, and he set out a desire to win more trophies to add to City’s four straight league titles.

“I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much,” the Catalan said. “Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

City’s recent struggles have come during a tough time for their top scorer Erling Haaland. The Norway international scored 10 goals in his first five league matches, but added just three in the next 12, though he insisted Guardiola still has the backing of the squad.

“He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that,” Haaland told TNT Sports. “He will find the solutions. He has been doing that every single year. We still believe in him, we have to work harder than ever right now.”

When asked what Guardiola told him in the tunnel, Haaland added: “It’s the small details, I don’t remember right now. I’m thinking we just lost a game, another one. I don’t remember but it was probably some small instructions to do things better.” ...CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE➤
