Lisandro Martinez “believes a lot” in Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United coaching staff....CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE➤
Amorim joined United from Sporting Lisbon in November and has been unable to inspire a turnaround in their season, despite there being glimmers of progress in the shift to his system.
The prospect of a relegation battle has been broached in Amorim’s press conferences, but United secured a 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday and there were huge positives to take.
Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League and United could have won Sunday’s entertaining game at Anfield. Amad produced an equaliser with 10 minutes to play and Harry Maguire missed a golden opportunity in the final seconds of added time to win the contest.
Martinez fired United into a 1-0 lead in the second half and spoke to MUTV after the final whistle. “For sure, I feel a little bit disappointed because we came here to win the game and we showed until the last seconds that we could win and we didn’t,” he explained.
“But I’m happy with the performance of the team. We fight, we play well and with freedom. A few matches ago, we were thinking too much. We were playing with stress or those kind of things, but we have to learn from that, show more personality and with the character we showed today.
“I believe a lot in this team. I believe a lot in the coach and his staff. I think football is mental and today if you see the game compared to the last few games, it’s a completely different team, no?
“We have to take the positive things and keep going. It gives us more confidence, honestly, and football is about that. Belief, confidence and we will be more secure in ourselves.
“We were thinking too much, too much. Sometimes you have to believe in your feelings in the game and make the right choice.”
Martinez discussed his well-taken goal that broke the deadlock in the second half at Anfield, saying: “It’s a good feeling, but for me I want to win the game and that’s the most important thing. Who scores, I don’t really care, I just want to win and make the people happy.
“We can do it, we can compete against everyone. We showed against City and today we did it against Liverpool. We have the right players and we have to believe, and that’s it.”
