The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed the milestone achievement during a media interface in Abuja on Tuesday, January 28.

Furthermore, the minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to improving service delivery and accountability, Vanguard reported.

The minister further disclosed that the ministry recorded over N3.2 billion in revenue from expatriate quota applications, contributing to a 150 per cent overall increase in the ministry’s annual revenue.

He revealed that the marriage registry had far exceeded expectations, bringing in over N892 million by October 31, 2023, surpassing its revenue targets for the year.

“Marriage registries have evolved into a crucial revenue source for the government, thanks to our commitment to efficiency and transparency,” Tunji-Ojo said.

Additionally, the minister highlighted the impressive growth in revenue from expatriate quota applications, which brought in over N3.2 billion in 2024.

This represents a 150% increase from previous years, with 2023’s earnings surpassing the N600 million target by over 100 per cent, Business Day reported

Tunji-Ojo also addressed national security concerns, outlining plans to strengthen border security to prevent irregular migration, which he stressed is essential for protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity

and citizens’ safety.

Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and service delivery.

She called for enhanced media collaboration to ensure citizens are informed and government actions are held accountable.

“Our challenges are significant, but so are the opportunities. By working together, we can create a safer, more inclusive environment for all Nigerians. In 2025, we plan to focus on improving national security and service delivery through community engagement,” Ajani stated.

The briefing also included updates from agency heads under the ministry, focusing on policy improvements to better serve citizens’ needs.
