This decision follows the Rivers State High Court ruling that nullified the PDP’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses held July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, according to Vanguard.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Stephen Jumbo, on January 13, 2025, also issued an interlocutory injunction restraining the executives led by State Chairman Aaron Chukwuemeka, from functioning as the party’s leadership in the state.

The court recognized the Ewor-led faction, which is aligned with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as the rightful time.

In a statement released on Thursday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced the party’s acceptance of the court’s judgment.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acknowledges receipt, has considered, and hereby accepts the judgment of the Rivers State High Court, which in Suit No. PHC/2301/CS/2024 nullified the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses of our Party in Rivers State conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, respectively,” the statement read.

“Consequently, in line with the judgment of the Court delivered on Monday, January 13, 2025, the NWC affirms the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to henceforth pilot the affairs of the PDP Rivers State Chapter in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).”

This development follows months of internal conflict between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, over control of the party’s structure in Rivers.

Efforts and interventions to reconcile the factions failed last year, as FCT ministet allies emerged victorious in the controversial congresses, prompting Fubara’s camp to withdraw amidst legal disputes.

The NWC commended the court’s decision, stating that it reinforces the PDP’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and adherence to the rule of law.
