Popular gospel actor and evangelist Mike Bamiloye has emphasized that tithes are not meant for pastors’ personal gain but for the provision and upkeep of God’s house. Bamiloye clarified that the misconception surrounding tithing stems from the belief that pastors are the sole beneficiaries. However, he pointed out that the biblical directive in Malachi 3:10 states: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house.” He stressed that the primary purpose of tithing is to ensure the church has the necessary resources to function effectively.
“God didn’t say, ‘Bring ye all the tithes so that the pastor can have it.’ He said, ‘Bring all the tithes so that there can be provision in my house,'” Bamiloye stated, emphasizing that tithing is about sustaining God’s work rather than enriching individuals.
According to the message, tithes contribute to various aspects of church operations, including infrastructure, equipment, and welfare programs. “That tithe is the chair you are sitting on. That tithe is the microphone you are hearing now. That tithe is the mixer that was changed overnight,” he noted, highlighting how church facilities are maintained through members’ contributions.
Beyond material provisions, he emphasized the role of tithes in supporting community initiatives such as free transportation services and food programs. He cited the “love kitchen” initiative, which ensures that no member leaves the church hungry, as well as the buses that transport thousands of worshippers to services without charge.
He reinforced the importance of understanding tithing as a means of sustaining the church’s mission rather than enriching individuals. He also encouraged believers to embrace tithing with the right mindset, knowing it serves a greater purpose in God’s house.
