Speaking on Sunday Adamu revealed that even 10 years after the court’s decision, no state governor is in full compliance with the ruling, with only a few states partially complying. This situation, he believes, poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
“On the issue of autonomy we are where we are, the court had delivered judgment since 2014. We went on strike many times, and we entered a Memorandum of Understanding, with all the state governors. I can attest that there is no single state for now that complies, it is only a few states that are in partial compliance,” Adamu stated.
He further emphasized the importance of an independent and financially autonomous judiciary, saying, “It is a serious threat and a problem to our democracy because if the judiciary is not independent and has financial autonomy and independence, there is nothing one can achieve as far as our understanding is concerned.”
