Spurs were rampant in the first hour of the quarter-final clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they built up a three-goal lead.

However, Tottenham’s issues at the back came to the fore once again as Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo brought Manchester United back to within a goal.

Son Heung-min scored from a corner to give Spurs a cushion, but Man United struck once again through Jonny Evans to make it 4-3, which ended up being the final score.

Speaking after the game, Jamie Carragher admitted that he might have been wrong about one of Spurs’ players after doubting him earlier this year.
Dominic Solanke was one of the heroes for Tottenham as he scored a brace to help Ange Postecoglou’s side on their way to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

The £60million man opened the scoring on the night on 15 minutes when he tucked in the rebound from a poor Altay Bayindir save via the post.

Solanke then made it 3-0 on the hour when he stepped inside Lisandro Martinez before shooting through Evans’ legs.

Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports News, admitted he wasn’t sure about Solanke’s suitability for Spurs, but he’s happy that the striker seems to be proving him wrong.

“I must say about Solanke, I wasn’t sure about the move when he came here,” he said. “Not for him. I was wondering whether it would be too big for him.

“He did really well at youth levels and international levels. Went to Liverpool, found it tough, which is understandable with the front three Liverpool had at the time but he didn’t make any sort of impact from the bench or the odd game for Liverpool.

“Went for Bournemouth and did well and I looked at that and thought I am not sure.

“But I think he has got nine goals already this season, and it’s not just about the goals, it’s his hold up play, his touches round the corner, his pressing.

“And I think that was a big night for him tonight, coming up against Man United. He looks like a top centre forward now.

“I’m made up for him, because he’s the type of lad that you think is he going to have the character and the personality, it wasn’t so much the ability, he’s maybe a bit shy. But I think that’s a really big night for him.

“I was watching him and sometimes you say things in this job and you think I hope I am not proven right about that because I hope that lad does well. Made a bit of a slow start but he’s up and running now.”
Football.london gave Solanke – who has been compared to Hernan CrespoN– a 9 out of 10 rating for his efforts on the night.

They wrote: “Netted his eighth goal of the season with a first-time effort from the keeper’s parry and then his ninth came with an excellent run and low finish. He holds the ball up so well and links the play superbly.”

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard gave Solanke an 8 out of 10 and wrote: “Both his finishes were superb, particularly the first which he arrowed in off the post on the half-volley.”
