According to a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe on Tuesday, the enforcement commenced February 1, 2025.
This move follows the Inspector-General of Police’s directive to enforce the policy nationwide, in compliance with the Insurance Act 2003 and the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act.

“Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has instructed all relevant personnel to ensure strict compliance with this directive, emphasizing professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights, and zero tolerance for corruption. To ensure accountability, an Enforcement Monitoring Committee has been set up to oversee the conduct of enforcement officers,” he said.

The Third-Party Motor Insurance Policy is the minimum compulsory insurance required by law in Nigeria, designed to protect road users by facilitating financial compensation for damages, injuries, or loss of life resulting from road accidents.

“Motorists are urged to obtain or renew their policies and cooperate with enforcement officers.
