• Governor’s Address:
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized collaboration among all state ministries and agencies involved in urban development. He stated that the domestication of the National Building Code is pivotal for resilience and sustainability in Lagos. • Green Lagos Initiative:
The Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, described the Building Code as an essential step towards realizing the vision of “Green Lagos.” The initiative is expected to promote durable infrastructure and proper building planning across the state.
• Participatory Approach:
The retreat highlighted the participatory approach used in developing the Building Code, with input from professionals, academia, market women, and the general public. This inclusive process ensures the Code’s acceptability and effectiveness statewide.
The Lagos Building Code is anticipated to set the stage for Lagos to align with international best practices and improve its capacity to withstand future shocks, solidifying its position among global smart cities.
