BREAKING: Court Arraigns Woman for Alleged Fraud Over Failed Marriage Promise

The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of fraud, impersonation, and breach of peace. According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, the alleged offenses took place on February 1 at about 10:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

Adeniyi informed the court that the defendant, despite being married, deceived the complainant, Mr. Ajayi Oluwabusuyi, by claiming to be single. Under this false pretense, she allegedly collected N607,500 from him for engagement preparations but failed to go through with the marriage.

Additionally, the prosecutor accused the defendant of falsely claiming to be a teacher at Egiri Oke Comprehensive School in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State. He further stated that her actions disrupted public peace, in violation of Sections 186, 393, and 181(1)(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.

The prosecutor requested an adjournment to review the case file and assemble witnesses. Meanwhile, the defendant pleaded not guilty. Her counsel, Mrs. Joy Raphael, appealed for bail, assuring the court that her client would not abscond.
