A statement from the military agency on Sunday, disclosed that the troops from 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in conjunction with Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, dealt a significant blow to bandits operating in Taraba and Benue States after they stormed the forests they were hiding.
It noted that, “The operation, codenamed “Operation Golden Peace,” aims to restore peace and security in the region.”
The operatives were said to have succeeded in overpowering the bandits after the encounter.
Items such as pistol, vehicle, military camouflage among others were recovered.
“On December 7, 2024, the troops launched a well-coordinated clearance operation in the Akahagu and China villages of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State. The operation extended to Ikayor village, where troops engaged bandits linked to the notorious criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as “Full Fire.”
“The bandits were forced to flee after troops applied overwhelming firepower. A red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, and various items, including a military camouflage trouser and a Beretta pistol, were recovered.
“Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and resilience.
