Daily Sun gathered exclusively at the headquarters of the party in Abuja that the planned expulsion is not unconnected with the various “anti-party activities el-Rufai,  founding member of party, has visibly perpetrated since the National Assembly screened him out of ministerial appointment.”

Multiple sources claimed his unpatriotic actions against the party came to the head last week when he, again, openly attacked both the party and its leaders, painting them in unprintable language at an event, National conference on strengthening democracy in Nigeria, in Abuja.

The former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had while speaking as a discussant at the event, taken a swipe at the APC, describing it as a party without ideals which abandoned its founding principles and fostered poor leadership.

He also criticised the quality of leadership and attributed it to unqualified delegates, just as he lamented lack of internal democracy and active party structures in the APC.

He blamed the problem of democracy in the country on what he tagged the illiterates, semi-illiterates, and cunning people in the position of leadership, saying: “I no longer recognise the APC. No party organ has met in two years—no caucus, no NEC, nothing. You don’t even know if it is a one-man show or it is a zero-man show. You cannot afford to have illiterates, semi-illiterates and cunning people as your leaders. This is why we ended up with the poor leadership we have today. The problems that led to the creation of the APC remain unresolved but I no longer believe the APC is interested in addressing them. The distance between me and the party is widening.”

Although he said reason for his attacks is to make them to change, the leadership of the party has refused to treat him with kid’s glove and has hauled all manners of projectiles.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, had described him as an aggrieved, desperate leader.

“The bizarre suggestion by opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and recently, aggrieved leaders like Mallam Nasir el-Rufai that our great party may be complicit in the internal corrosion of opposition parties is pitiful, and only an incompetent alibi for their crass failure to manage their own affairs.

“As discerning citizens, Nigerians know better than to be distracted by the false alarm and hollow allegations of desperate politicians whose only goal is shore up their political relevance in the build up to 2027 general elections,” Morka attacked.

Expectedly, the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, did not also spare el-Rufai when asked if he would be bothered if he considered joining another party.

Basiru replied: “In Nigeria, I don’t think that there is rigidity in terms of movement from one political party to the other… There is fluidity in terms of movement of people from one political party to the other.

“Of late, we have been seeing possible meetings and his pictures with the Chairman of the SDP and if he wants to move, it is part of the right of every Nigerian to leave any political party.

“It is his personal choice on whether to leave the APC or not and I don’t know what is his motive of toeing that line of action.”

However, sources at APC headquarters disclosed that the party, having realised that it will be disrespectful to it, have, on a second thought, decided to activate certain clauses to facilitate his suspension and eventual expulsion from his ward in Kaduna to clip his wings.

“I can authoritatively inform you that the presidency and the leadership of the party at both national and state levels are angry with el-Rufai’s attacks on the party. They have also resolved that it will be disgraceful to watch him walk out of the party just like that without embarrassing him with suspension and expulsion.

“As such, every arrangement has been put in place to start his disgrace by activating his suspension from his ward very soon. It will climax with the state and national leadership confirming his expulsion from the party. The party can no longer take the insults and attacks and treat them with levity,” the sources revealed. ...CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE➤
