BREAKING: Afenifere’s Factions Threaten Yoruba Unity, Says Arewa Yoruba Youths

The Association of Arewa Yoruba Youths (AAYY) has expressed deep concern over the split in Afenifere, a prominent Yoruba socio-cultural group, into two factions. According to Ambassador Lawal Hussein Taiye, National Coordinator of AAYY, this division has weakened Afenifere’s influence and prevented it from presenting a unified voice in national affairs. Hussein noted that Afenifere’s failure to prioritize Yoruba interests in candidate endorsements, unlike other regional socio-cultural groups such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Arewa Consultative Forum, raises serious concerns about leadership priorities and commitment to the Yoruba cause. He cited the example of Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s faction endorsing Peter Obi, a candidate from the South-East, during the last presidential election, which sparked widespread criticism.

He advocated for strengthening internal democracy, collaborating with other Yoruba socio-political groups, and prioritizing issues such as regional security, economic empowerment, and true federalism.
