Manchester United fans were feeling bad enough on Sunday morning having witnessed the 3-2 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

That was a truly dismal performance, leaving Rio Ferdinand slating United as a ‘shambles’ with Ruben Amorim suffering back-to-back defeats.

United then announced an unbelievable development with Dan Ashworth leaving United mere months after his arrival.

Ineos headhunted Ashworth for the sporting director job and paid compensation to lure him away from Newcastle United.

Ashworth has already gone though, leaving fans with major question marks around the Ineos project.

Premier League club eyeing Dan Ashworth

Gary Neville has slammed United’s ‘weak’ statement announcing Ashworth’s departure and there are more questions than answers right now.

United will forge on without Ashworth and will hope to prove that the current structure can bring the club back to the top without Ashworth.

As for Ashworth, he is unlikely to be out of work for long given his reputation in Premier League circles.

The Sun now report that Everton are monitoring Ashworth’s situation ahead of a possible move to lure him to Goodison Park.

United have been chasing Jarrad Branthwaite with Ashworth understood to be a huge fan of the Everton defender.

If Ashworth does end up at Goodison Park, he may be reluctant to lose Branthwaite – and possibly reluctant to sell to United after his abrupt exit.

Managing director Richard Garlick worked alongside Ashworth at West Bromwich Albion and some believe that they will now reunite in North London.

ESPN now claim that Arsenal are indeed interested in Ashworth and will consider him for their sporting director role.
