Nura, who has been undergoing treatment for mental illness at Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital, reportedly became frustrated by his grandmother’s persistent inquiries about his health. Police disclosed that Zuwaira often expressed concern about her grandson’s condition, but her repeated questioning seemingly aggravated Nura. Despite his warnings to stop, Zuwaira continued to ask, which ultimately triggered the tragic event.

In an audio confession obtained by Punch Metro, Nura admitted to the act, stating, “She kept asking about my health, and I warned her to stop. I even asked her what was wrong with me, but she said nothing. That’s why I poured petrol on her and set her on fire.”

According to police records, Nura went to his family home with a canister of gasoline, poured it on his grandmother, and ignited it. Zuwaira was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident. He added that preliminary investigations revealed Nura has been battling a mental health disorder.
