Both Ude-Okoye and Anyanwu have confirmed their intentions in separate interviews with The PUNCH on Sunday.
The Court of Appeal recently upheld Ude-Okoye’s position as the PDP national secretary, but Anyanwu continues to dispute the ruling, asserting his claim as the rightful party secretary.
This ongoing dispute has intensified divisions within the PDP, with top officials and NWC members taking sides. While at least 12 NWC members and some governors support Ude-Okoye, others remain loyal to Anyanwu.
The power struggle began following the 2023 elections when Ude-Okoye was nominated to replace Anyanwu, who had contested the Imo State governorship election. A series of legal battles culminated in a December 2024 Court of Appeal decision upholding Ude-Okoye’s appointment.
Ude-Okoye, asserting his legitimacy, emphasized his commitment to the party’s unity, while Anyanwu insists on maintaining his position with a stay of execution still in place.
Party leaders, including Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary Diran Odeyemi, have urged calm and unity among members, stressing the importance of adhering to constitutional guidelines to prevent further damage.
