According to Governor Zulum, the fuel subsidy is aimed at alleviating the financial burdens faced by farmers in communities that have suffered economic and infrastructural destruction due to years of conflict. With a litre of petrol selling for between N1,000 and N1,200 in Maiduguri, the subsidized rate of N600 per litre is a welcome relief for farmers.
This initiative is not new, as Governor Zulum had previously implemented a similar program in resettled communities of Damasak and Kukawa local government areas, resulting in significant increases in food production and improved livelihoods.
Special Adviser on Media and Spokesman to Governor Zulum, Mallam Dauda Iliya, explained that the initiative is designed to support displaced farmers who are recovering from 15 years of Boko Haram insurgency. “We have the data of all the farmers that will be given the fuel subsidy, and there will be a dedicated filling station in Bama to prevent any form of abuse,” Iliya stated.
Governor Zulum’s approach is focused on promoting sustainable livelihoods rather than relying on handouts. By supporting farmers, the government aims to bolster food production in the state and ensure that communities are economically self-reliant.
In conclusion, Governor Zulum’s fuel subsidy initiative is a well-intentioned program aimed at supporting displaced farmers and boosting food production in Borno State. Rather than criticizing the initiative, we should commend the governor’s efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods and economic growth in the state. ...CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE➤
