During a staff meeting, CEO Omar Berrada confirmed the cancellation. One staff member audibly reacted with a long “Oh,” highlighting the disappointment among employees.
The decision sparked widespread discontent within the club. Fernandes, “stunned” by the announcement, volunteered to cover additional expenses to ensure the staff could still celebrate. However, the offer was rejected.
United are said to have saved approximately £250,000 by canceling the event. However, the club insist that the decision was not financially motivated but rather a response to recent job losses within the organization, deeming it inappropriate to celebrate under such circumstances.
