INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
The decision is part of 142 recommendations aimed at improving preparedness, voter management, education, political party oversight, and electoral operations. The recommendations also address technology, security, and legal frameworks.
Yakubu noted that with the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), the PVC should no longer be the sole means of voter accreditation. He proposed computer-generated slips or downloadable identification from the Commission’s website as alternatives.
While PVC holders can still use their cards to vote, the new system is expected to reduce costs, simplify processes, and curb PVC-related electoral malpractice.
