The incident occurred on January 8, 2025, at a water canal in Section 4 of Triangle, Masvingo. According to a police statement shared on social media platform X, Chiromonyo reportedly took her daughters, aged three and seven, to the canal and jumped into the water with them in what appears to have been a murder-suicide attempt.
While Chiromonyo survived the strong currents unharmed, her two daughters were swept away and tragically drowned.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by a heated argument between Chiromonyo and her husband after she accused him of cheating. Neighbors reportedly heard shouting before the situation escalated into the devastating act.
